‘I have never forgotten you – the Life and Legacy of Simon Wiesenthal’ (12A) is 105 mins long and is narrated by Nicole Kidman. It tells the story of Simon Wiesenthal. He grew up in Ukraine, was a prisoner in the Mauthausen death camp when it was liberated by US troops in May 1945, but dozens of his family members, including his mother, stepfather and stepbrother, died in the Holocaust. Wiesenthal spent the rest of his life helping to bring more than 1,100 Nazi war criminals to justice in the decades after the Second World War ended. They included Adolf Eichmann, an architect of the Holocaust, and Franz Stangl, commandant of the Treblinka and Sobibor Nazi death camps in Poland. He died at the age of 96 in Vienna in 2005.
Violinist David Biermann will play before the film and there will be an exhibition of Paul Brown’s photography on the theme of ‘imagine, remember, reflect and react’.
Coun Pauline Allen, executive member for culture, heritage, libraries and sport, said: “The screening of this film represents an excellent opportunity for people to learn more about this extraordinary man. It features interviews with government leaders from around the world, friends and family members and gives an insight into the driving force behind his work.”
